Hungaroring race winners
The only circuit in Hungary where professional motorsport is held, the Hungaroring opened in 1986 in time for the country’s first Formula One grand prix.
Two years’ later, touring cars came to the circuit near Budapest, with the DTM staging races in 1988, but there would then be a 12-year wait for another major series to arrive, when the European Super Touring Car Championship held races in 2000 and 2001.
The Hungaroring is now a hugely popular touring car venue, and with the rise of star driver Norbert Michelisz, the circuit attracts a large crowd each year.
World Touring Cars has visited the 4.38 km circuit every year since 2011, making it one of the most consistent venues for the sport in recent years.
Aside from the removal of a chicane in 1989, the most significant circuit modification took place in 2003 when the run to the first corner was extended, in a bid to improve overtaking into the first turn.
