Confidence restored for Jack Goff after positive Snetterton test

WIX Racing with Eurotech’s Jack Goff has renewed confidence after bouncing back from a horrendous Croft weekend to top the final day of the British Touring Car Championship’s in-season tyre test at Snetterton.

A 1:56.340s around the 2.99 mile circuit handed the Honda Civic Type R racer the fastest cumulative lap time of the day, with Power Maxed Racing’s Josh Cook a mere 0.268 seconds adrift.

Goff – a race-winner in 2018 at the season-opening event at Brands Hatch – scored no points at Croft and as a result is now a half-century of points behind standings leader Colin Turkington.

The next event at the Norfolk circuit – which also hosts the BTCC’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, including a 60km race worth double points – could prove crucial in deciding whether the BRDC Superstar continues to play a leading role in the story of this year’s title fight.

“Coming from Croft it wasn’t going to be much worse!” laughed Goff.
“Joking aside, as soon as the car was on track here at Snetterton, we were straight back to where we’ve been for the last year really – up at the sharp end.

“Today was largely about long runs to be honest and not about our one-lap pace, but it’s always nice to be quickest.

“Our race pace seems good – we did a couple of the longer distance runs and we were a chunk up by mid-distance, but then some of the others seemed to come back towards us late on. I’m sure it evens itself out but we’re there or thereabouts.

“Croft was just weird, we were 26th, 27th or 28th I think, and now we’re back to being one of the fastest. It’s just nice for everyone in the team as we were all a bit down and now we’re in a good frame of mind ahead of the race weekend.”

The championship reconvenes over the weekend of 28-29 July.
