Stefano D’Aste keeps race two pole

Wiechers-Sport’s Stefano D’Aste will line-up on pole position for the second World Touring Car Championship race in Slovakia after all, it was confirmed this morning.

D’Aste had originally qualified in tenth in Q2, meaning that he was due to start on pole position for the second race under the WTCC’s reverse grid rule. However when James Nash, who qualified fourth, was handed a ten-place penalty for failing the ride height checks, doubt was thrown over D’Aste’s position for race two.

Yesterday it was reported that due to Nash’s penalty Tom Chilton, who originally qualified 11th, would inherit the pole as a result of everyone moving up a position and Chilton, crucially, into 10th. This is now known to not be the case.

Nash’s penalty is to be applied after the grids are published, which leaves him starting in 14th for race one and 17th for race two.

The grid for race 2:

1. Stefano D’Aste
2. Alain Menu
3. Pepe Oriola
4. Robert Huff
5. Yvan Muller
6. Tiago Monteiro
7. Gabriele Tarquini
8. Aleksei Dudukalo
9. Norbert Michelisz
10. Tom Chilton
