Tom Ingram further extended his points lead in the British Touring Car Championship with his fourth win of the season, whilst title rival Ash Sutton followed him home in second.
After victory in the opening race of the day, Laser Tools Racing’s Jake Hill started from pole position. But the BMW driver only managed to hold on for two laps on the medium compound tyre – one of only two drivers in the field on the harder rubber – before Ingram started a move for the lead at Clark Curve which he completed into the hairpin on lap three.
Ingram, on the soft tyre, then romped to a fourth win of the year by a comfortable margin, ultimately beating rival Sutton, who had taken until lap five to make any progress from his eighth-place starting position.
Sutton made steady progress, passing Senna Proctor for third on lap 15, before being handed second by team-mate Dan Cammish on the final lap.
Cammish completed the podium in third, his seventh in the season, to leapfrog NAPA Racing UK team-mate Daniel Rowbottom in the drivers’ standings.
Proctor was fourth in his Team Vertu Hyundai, ahead of the leading BMW of Hill in fifth.
Daryl DeLeon followed his stablemate home in sixth, which gives him the reverse-grid pole for race three after Ingram drew the top six to be reversed for the finale.
Aiden Moffat followed his WSR colleagues home in seventh, ahead of Tom Chilton in eighth, the Team Vertu driver putting in a strong drive from the back of the grid after he was excluded from the race one result, when he had crossed the line in 17th, for a turbo overboost.
NAPA’s Rowbottom and Team Vertu’s Adam Morgan completed the top ten, both drivers having fallen back in the closing stages of the race.
Árón Taylor-Smith was the leading Toyota driver in 11th, whilst Restart Racing’s Chris Smiley was the top Independent in 12th, moving the Hyundai driver to the top of the Independent drivers’ standings.
