Ruben Volt scores Misano pole position

ALM Motorsport’s Ruben Volt claimed his second TCR Europe pole position at Misano, beating fellow Honda racer Jacopo Cimenes by just 0.064 seconds.

Estonian racer Volt had earlier been in contention during Q1, lapping within two tenths of the top time, before find four tenths of a second to claim pole in Q2 with a lap of 1 minute 41.771 seconds.

Series newcomer Cimenes was an impressive second, having topped Friday’s practice times and shown that they were no flash in the pan.

Monlau Motorsport’s Jenson Brickley was actually the quickest driver in Q1, lapping in 1:41.977, and even though he didn’t go any faster in Q2, he ended up as the best of the CUPRA drivers in third.

Santiago Concepción put his Honda in fourth, ahead of a strong qualifying performance by MA:GP’s Viktor Andersson in fifth, the sole Lynk & Co driver in the field.

Solite Indigo Racing’s Junesung Park was sixth, ahead of the second Monlau CUPRA of Eric Gené and MM Motorsport’s Marco Butti in eighth.

The top ten was completed by RC2 Racing’s Felipe Fernández and Team Clairet Sport’s Teddy Clairet, giving the latter the reverse-grid pole position for Sunday’s second race.

Hyundai duo Michele Imberti and Junui Park completed the Q2 runners in 11^th and 12^th respectively, where they will start both races.

Championship leader Jimmy Clairet failed to even make it through to Q2. With the Audis struggling in Italy (only his brother Teddy put his RS3 into Q2), the 34-year-old qualified in just 15^th.

Several other big-name drivers failed to get through – Nicolas Taylor, who had endured a difficult practice day on Friday, was only 13^th in his Audi, over seven tenths off the Q1 pace, ahead of Target Competition’s Max Hart in 14^th.

Aikoa Racing’s Nicola Baldan will also be disappointed after qualifying in just 16^th, the last of the drivers within a second of the Q1 pace.

Race one is scheduled to get underway at 20:35 CEST (19:35 BST) on Saturday and will be streamed live via YouTube.
