Dutchman Robin Frijns was once again the fastest driver in DTM practice, as the Audi driver topped the second session at Zolder by a mere 5 thousandths of a second ahead of Loïc Duval.
Frijns had topped the day’s longer first session with a lap of 1:20.075, and with the pace hotting up in second practice the Team Abt Sportsline driver went over a tenth faster, posting a lap of 1:19.926.
Duval was the only other driver to get below the 1 minute 20 seconds mark, the Frenchman posting a time which was just 0.005 seconds slower than title contender Frijns.
Reigning champion René Rast was third quickest, also within a tenth of the pace, ahead of points leader Nico Müller in fourth, the Swiss being exactly a tenth off the pace.
Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller was fifth quickest, ahead of the leading BMW of Timo Glock in sixth. Glock improved his performance from the day’s first session, where the German was also the leading BMW driver, ending up 0.139 seconds from the top time.
WRT’s Ferdinand von Habsburg was seventh, ahead of the factory Audi of Jamie Green in eighth.
The top ten was completed by BMW duo Marco Wittmann and Sheldon van der Linde, the latter being the only other driver within half a second of the pace.
15 of the 16 drivers were within a second of the pace around the iconic Belgian circuit, with WRT’s Harrison Newey propping up the timesheets in 16th.
Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 10:30 CEST (09:40 BST) on Saturday.
