Audi Sport continued its dominance in the first weekend of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) season, as Mike Rockenfeller took pole position for the feature race this afternoon.

The 2013 Champion secured the top spot in very changeable conditions, leading an Audi Sport whitewash. Miguel Molina and Mattias Ekström completed the top three, whereas yesterday’s pole sitter and race one winner, Jamie Green, found himself in 19th after the 20-minute session.

The top BMW driver was defending champion Marco Wittmann, who will now start third, as a result of Molina getting a three-place penalty for his collision with Tom Blomqvist in yesterday’s race. Wittmann survived an early scare, as the German went wide onto the grass into the final stadium complex.

Blomqvist would go top in the first half of the session, but would have to settle for 21st, This was before that he, along with team mate Augusto Farfus, were given a five place grid penalty, due to both wet tyre boxes being opened before qualifying. Both drivers will start last and 18th respectively.

Gary Paffett featured heavily in this session, fighting at the very front, but only managed to take eighth place as the fastest of the Mercedes drivers.

Edoardo Mortara took another top five grid spot for the third race in a row, securing fifth ahead of the BMW pair of Martin Tomczyk and António Félix da Costa.

Maxime Martin had another solid showing, placing ninth, with Robert Wickens completing the top ten. Adrien Tambay was 11th, ahead of Paul Di Resta, who took third in yesterday’s action-filled drama.

Having being cleared to compete with an injured left hand, Timo Scheider still fought his way to 14th, having even set a fastest lap around the heavily evolving track, ahead of Bruno Spengler and Nico Müller.

Timo Glock finds himself at the tail end of the grid in 17th, as Pascal Wehrlein will line up ahead of Green for today’s race. Lucas Auer will start 20th, with Maximillian Götz, Christian Vietoris and Daniel Juncadella ahead of Blomqvist.

The second race of the weekend starts at 1343 CEST (1243 GMT).
