Jamie Green and Audi dominate in qualifying for Lausitz race two

Audi Sport’s Jamie Green continued his impressive form for this afternoon’s Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) race at the Eurospeedway Lausitz, taking a dominant pole position by over half a second.

The Brit set a time of 1:17.386 around the 3.478km track, leading another Audi 1-2-3-4. Mattias Ekström will line up on the front row alongside Green, with Timo Scheider and yesterday’s pole sitter Miguel Molina making up the second row.

“My car is sim­ply per­fect this week­end,” explained Green, who is currently leading the standings by a mere two points. “Yes­ter­day, I could have not only clinched vic­tory but the top spot on the grid as well. I did­n’t quite man­age that be­cause the first lap was­n’t clear yes­ter­day. The lap to­day was near-per­fect. Still, it’s go­ing to be a long and tough race this af­ter­noon.”

BMW’s fastest driver of the session was Team RMG’s Maxime Martin, who was fifth fastest, with Edoardo Mortara just 0.070 seconds behind the Belgian.

Team RBM’s Augusto Farfus took seventh, with the Audi pair of Nico Müller and Mike Rockenfeller making it seven RS5 DTMs in the top ten, placing eighth and ninth. Daniel Juncadella was the fastest of the Mercedes drivers, completing the top ten.

Gary Paffett was also a fraction outside the top ten, as the 2005 champion was just 0.012 seconds behind the Spaniard, but 0.020 seconds ahead of the next best placed BMW drivers, Tom Blomqvist and Bruno Spengler.

Defending champion Marco Wittmann seems to not have the best of luck at the moment, as the 25-year-old placed 17th for the race this afternoon behind the Mercedes trio of Pascal Wehrlein, Christian Vietoris and Robert Wickens.

Team Schnitzer’s António Félix da Costa will start 18th, ahead of Mercedes rookie, ART Grand Prix’s Lucas Auer. Adrien Tambay was able to set a timed lap today, posting the 20th fastest time, unlike Maximilian Götz, who starts from last.

Timo Glock will start 21st on the grid, ahead of Paul Di Resta and BMW’s Martin Tomczyk.

Race two starts at 1423 CEST (1323 BST).
