Sepang race winners

At the time of opening in 1999, the Sepang International Circuit was one of the most modern racing facilities in the world, and it remains a popular and well-equipped circuit to the present day.

Built at the time when the Malaysian government moved its administrative capital to Putrajaya to the north and the country’s new international airport was being constructed adjacent to the track, the Sepang circuit was part of a huge development period for the country.

Designed by renowned architect Hermann Tilke, the circuit cost £12 million and took 14 months to construct, starting in December 1996.

It hosted the first Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix on 17 October 1999, with the country holding a date every year for 19 years.

Although F1 has since left, the circuit remains the host of the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, which it has hosted every year since 1999.

Certified as FIA grade One until 2020, when it was allowed to lapse, the track has seen world-level touring cars come in the form of firstly TCR International, where it staged the first-ever TCR race in 2015, before the FIA World Touring Car Cup held its season finale at the venue in 2019.
