El Pinar race winners

The Autódromo Víctor Borrat Fabini in El Pinar, just outside the capital city of Montevideo, is probably Uruguay’s most important circuit.

The venue opened back in 1956, originally with a simple triangular layout which still exists today, although it is not often used for top-level competitions.

In 1975 most of the infield section was added, albeit two years late due to the oil crisis of the time increasing construction costs, creating a tight and compact layout, particularly for the ‘No. 3’ variant.

In the late 1990s, the regional South American Super Touring Championship made its one and only visit to the circuit, meaning that it would be more than two decades before international tin tops returned.

A new extension was added at Turn 2 in the late 2010s, opening in 2017 following input from renowned circuit designer Hermann Tilke. At the same time, the old hairpin ‘Gota de Agua’ was brought back into use, providing an additional corner option.
