Dan Cammish consolidated his pace at Oulton Park on Sunday, backing up Saturday’s qualifying-race success with a controlled victory in the opening British Touring Car Championship contest of the day.
After securing pole by winning the Saturday showdown, the NAPA Racing UK driver delivered again when it mattered, leading from the front to seal his first BTCC win of the 2026 season at the Cheshire circuit.
Early morning rain and a damp track added uncertainty before the lights went out, with the field left second-guessing grip levels, braking points and how quickly the circuit would come to them.
The 37-year-old ultimately prevailed to claim his 17th BTCC win by just under a second from the Toyota of Josh Cook.
“It was a good race,” said Cammish. “We learned a lot yesterday and understood a bit more about where we were strong and where we were slightly weaker than Josh [Cook].
“The track remained damp all the way up until the green flag lap and then the track was noticeably drier than we thought.
“We can only see the stretch on the start straight – that was kind of the wettest bit – and the first guy to discover that is always sketchy. You pick a breaking point and you’re either a hero or a zero.”
Having made a good start, Cammish’s focus to management of his advantage. Cook stayed in touch throughout, while Tom Ingram loomed just behind, keeping the pressure high and leaving little margin for error.
Cammish knew the battle would be shaped by boost strategy as much as outright pace.
“It was about trying to manage it. I knew Josh would have opportunities, and he did. Every lap that went by where he used the boost and couldn’t make it stick gave me an extra opportunity to just bide a bit more time. Once we got some parity, I felt we had enough in hand.
“There was a lap where I deployed and Josh didn’t, and that helped break it up a little. Tom [Ingram] got involved as well, which distracted Josh, and that gave me a bit of clear air. The boost is powerful, so I was glad we had enough pace to bring it home.”
Cammish was quick to credit the work done by his NAPA Racing UK team, praising the performance of his car.
“It’s a testament to the guys, who’ve done such a great job. That car is as it arrived and it’s hit the ground running. It’s been quick and it’s really suited the track in these conditions, and we’ve made good use of it.
“We’ve scored a lot of points and picked up a new trophy.”
