Power Maxed Racing will expand to run four cars in the British Touring Car Championship for the first time in its history, after signing a deal with Nick Halstead to drive a fourth Audi A3 Saloon.
Halstead, 54, appeared to have bowed out after the 2025 season, when he competed with the team for all bar the opening round, initially in a Vauxhall Astra before switching to a CUPRA following the team’s devastating fire at its headquarters in August.
Halstead will thus participate in his fifth season in the BTCC, having made his début in a one-off entry at Croft in 2021 before going on to spend two seasons with EXCELR8 Motorsport in Hyundai equipment.
“I’m really pleased to be returning to Power Maxed Racing and being back on the BTCC grid,” said Halstead.
“Since moving to Australia, I’ve had some great opportunities to continue racing, but the BTCC has always been where I wanted to be competing.
“It’s great to be back with a team I know well, and I’m looking forward to getting started again and seeing what we can achieve together.”
Team Principal Adam Weaver heralded the significant expansion of the team just one year on from overcoming the biggest hurdle in its history.
“Expanding to four cars is a significant step for Power Maxed Racing and reflects the continued progress the team has made in recent seasons,” said Weaver. “It’s a credit to everyone involved, both on and off-track.
“When we looked at the opportunity to add a fourth entry, Nick was a natural fit. He understands how the team operates, integrated well in 2025, and has continued to build experience since then.
“With it also commemorating the anniversary of the fire, with Nick providing so much support in getting back racing this time last year, it’s very fitting that he is getting in the car at Knockhill.
“We’re pleased to welcome him back and look forward to working with him again.”
