Un-Limited Motorsport has announced on social media that it will not contest the 2026 British Touring Car Championship season, despite holding two TOCA BTCC Licences (TBLs).
The team, owned by Bob Sharpless, joined the BTCC in 2024 and expanded to three cars at the start of the 2025 campaign, although following the departure of Max Hall halfway through the year it reverted to running two cars in the final five meetings.
The team had yet to announce any drivers for 2026, although Dexter Patterson had already confirmed a move to Power Maxed Racing for the forthcoming season.
The team has now put out a statement confirming it will not race in the BTCC this year, citing the ‘current economic climate’ as a cause.
“Un-Limited Motorsport today confirms that it will not be competing in the 2026 British Touring Car Championship season,” read the statement.
“This difficult decision follows the withdrawal of our title sponsorship programme, driven by the current economic climate.
“Despite exploring a number of alternative options to remain on the grid, it has unfortunately not been possible to secure the level of support required to compete at the standard the team expects.
“While we are disappointed not to be taking part this season, the team remains committed to its long-term future and will continue working behind the scenes to evaluate opportunities moving forward.
“Un-Limited Motorsport would like to thank our partners, supporters and fans for their continued encouragement and understanding.”
With no other team committed to running the CUPRA Leons, it is likely to mark the first time since the car was introduced in 2021 that it will be absent from the grid.
To-date, the CUPRA has scored just four podium finishes in the championship, all of which came from Team HARD between 2021 and 2023 and three of which were scored by Bobby Thompson.
