Norbert Michelisz kept BRC Racing on top of the times in the second FIA TCR World Tour practice session in Macau, although his time fell short of the lap produced by team-mate Mikel Azcona in first practice.
Hyundai’s Michelisz held the top time for the final 20 minutes of the session, which was ultimately red-flagged when HMO Customer Racing’s Ryan MacMillan stopped on the circuit with suspension damage after hitting the wall at Maternity bend with two minutes to go.
Thus, Michelisz ended up on top with a lap of 2 minutes 28.386 seconds, which was 0.142 seconds slower than Azcona’s pace-setting time earlier in the day.
It was nevertheless the second-best lap overall of Thursday’s running, with Cyan Racing’s championship leader Yann Ehrlacher once again second quickest, half a second slower than Michelisz.
Azcona ended up in third, nine tenths slower than he had gone on his best lap on new tyres in FP1, with BRC team-mate Néstor Girolami in fourth.
Cyan Racing trio Santiago Urrutia, Ma Qing Hua and Thed Björk were next up, in fifth, sixth and seventh respectively, the latter 1.3 seconds off the pace.
The top ten was completed by GOAT Racing Honda duo Esteban Guerrieri and Ignacio Montenegro, in eighth and ninth respectively, and Evolve Racing’s Lo Sze Ho in tenth.
HMO Customer Racing’s Josh Buchan, in his last race in TCR, was 11th quickest, ahead of the leading CUPRA of SP Compétition’s Aurélien Comte in 12th.
Qualifying is scheduled to take place at 12:10 local time on Friday (04:10 GMT, 05:10 CET).
