Jenson Brickley secured the 2025 TCR Europe drivers’ title in the season finale at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona, with the race being won by reverse-grid pole-sitter Junesung Park.
Five drivers went into the finale in contention for the title – with Brickley leading the points after his second-place finish on Friday and Teddy Clairet his closest challenger five points adrift.
At the start, Park got away from the line well, with Teddy Clairet, Jimmy Clairet and Gené following in the top positions, whilst further back ALM Motorsport’s Ruben Volt made a strong start from ninth on the grid to jump to sixth after the first sequence of corners.
Gené had to take to the runoff at the Turn 1 – 2 sequence, but emerged in front of Jimmy Clairet in third, but as the race developed over the following laps, the CUPRA driver lacked the pace to challenge Teddy Clairet ahead.
Volt dived inside Jimmy Clairet for fourth on lap eight, and the Estonian was clearly the man on the move, quickly pressuring Gené for third.
With Volt not in the title mix, Gené moved aside for the Honda driver a lap and a half later. Then, three laps from the finish, with Gené falling further back and his own title chances fading, he moved aside at Turn 11 to allow both Jimmy Clairet and, crucially, Brickley through.
The top positions remained unchanged thereafter, and as Junesung Park scored his maiden TCR Europe win in the leading Solite Indigo Racing Hyundai, it was Brickley who took the overall championship by a single point, thanks to the team tactics employed within his Monlau Motorsport squad and team-mate Gené.
Volt was originally classified in second, which would have lifted him to fifth overall in the drivers’ standings. However, he was later excluded from the result due to an irregularity in the starting procedure, in which meant his start was determined not by the driver but by his car’s ECU. That resulted in a non-conformance with the rules on driver aids, and he was thrown out of the result. Thus Teddy Clairet was second, the Audi driver ending up tied with Brickley on points but losing the title on the number of second-place finishes in 2025 as the duo had the same number of race wins.
Jimmy Clairet followed his brother home in third, whilst fourth was enough for Brickley to take the title in his début season in the championship.
Felipe Fernández also got past Gené at the final corner, but not before the duo had banged wheels a lap prior, for which Gené was later penalised. Fernández thus finished in fifth, ahead of ALM Motorsport’s René Kricher, who took sixth across the line.
Junui Park was seventh in his Hyundai, with the top ten completed by MA:GP’s Viktor Andersson, Gené, who had ten seconds of time penalties added to his time, and Max Hart.
Target Competition’s Hart concluded a relatively anonymous weekend in 10th, with erstwhile championship leader Marco Butti only managing 11th in his MM Motorsport Honda.
JSB Compétition’s Julien Briché was the only retirement of the race, stopping three laps from the end. Both Victor Fernández and Jacopo Cimenes failed to take the start as a result of their race one start-line crash on Friday.
