Árón Taylor-Smith: ‘I genuinely think we can challenge at Silverstone’

Toyota’s Árón Taylor-Smith is expecting to be able to continue a run of recent form in this weekend’s British Touring Car Championship races at Silverstone.

Taylor-Smith changed to a TOCA engine for the previous event at Donington Park, and the Irishman immediately saw an upturn in form, as he finished inside the top ten in all three races for the first time in 2025 – including a season-best result of fourth in the final race of the day.

Six of Taylor-Smith’s 22 BTCC podiums have come at Silverstone, with his most recent Silverstone podium visit being in 2023.

In both the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Taylor-Smith enjoyed his strongest weekends of the season at Silverstone (in 2022 it was the only weekend he was in the top ten more than once) and he showed strong pace again in 2024, taking pole position in qualifying only to be thrown out of the classification for failing the ride height checks.

Thus, heading to arguably his strongest BTCC circuit, off the back of his best results of the season so far last time out, confidence is high for Taylor-Smith.

“Silverstone has historically been a track that has favoured both the Toyota as well as myself, and I think the team is in a great place after our best weekend of the year at Donington Park,” said Taylor-Smith.

“Racing at the ‘Home of British Motorsport’ is always a little bit special, and I feel it will really play to the strengths of the Corolla’s excellent chassis – the long-radius corners with the focus on getting a good exit are a great match for the Toyota’s core attributes.

“The car is in the best window we’ve had it all season, and I genuinely think we can challenge.

“We narrowly missed out on a podium at Donington, and I feel like we have a more competitive package going into this weekend thanks to the three-week prep time in-between.

“It’s also nice that the team has had a bit of a chance to catch up on some much-needed sleep after everybody’s non-stop efforts of late.

“Now, I’m feeling excited to push on and try to close out the season on a high with some really strong results.

“Between the four of us, I think we can extract every little bit out of this car and put on a great show.”
