Power Maxed Racing to field two loaned CUPRAs at Knockhill

Power Maxed Racing, which saw its headquarters burned to the ground on Saturday, will field two CUPRA Leon cars in this weekend’s British Touring Car Championship races at Knockhill.

The team’s continued participation has been made possible thanks to the loan of equipment from the family of Dexter Patterson, which owns the previously-run Scott Sumpton car, and Un-Limited Motorsport.

Un-Limited Motorsport has offered the use of the car raced by Stephen Jelley at the previous round at Croft, with Jelley standing down from driving as a result.

Series organiser TOCA has also taken the decision to permit the lease of the car without affecting the TOCA BTCC Licence [TBL] allocation for Un-Limited Motorsport due to the ‘exceptional circumstances’.

Due to the loss of Power Maxed Racing’s Vauxhall Astras, the team will run the loaned CUPRA machinery for the rest of the season.

“The outpouring of support since the weekend has been nothing short of incredible and merely underlines my previous point – the BTCC is the most amazing motorsport community anywhere in the world,” said Power Maxed Team Owner Adam Weaver.

“We still have an unfathomable amount of work ahead of this weekend, and beyond of course, but to be able to say that we will be on the grid with two cars is arguably one of the proudest moments of my career and the most poignant and significant moment in the history of Power Maxed Racing.

“Thank you to Un-Limited Motorsport, the Patterson’s and the wider BTCC family – this simply wouldn’t have been possible without their support.”

Un-Limited Motorsport owner Bob Sharpless said he was keen to support however he could when he first heard of the devastation caused to the Power Maxed business and race team.

“Hearing the news that Power Maxed Racing had been destroyed by a huge fire struck a chord with us and everyone within the motorsport community,” said Sharpless.

“We know how difficult it is to build a business and a race team, as well as the human story behind such devastation, and we wanted to see if there was anything we could do to support.

“We’ve been discussing the situation with business partner Matt Edwards and Adam Weaver, and it was clear that Un-Limited loaning a car to PMR would be of huge significance in helping the team get back on its feet.

“We are looking forward to the weekend, where we will compete against each other as hard as we always do, in true testament to the spirit of the BTCC.”

Power Maxed Racing will be able to continue using its team transporters, as they were parked away from the buildings and were one of the only items unaffected by the fire, giving them some basic equipment to work with.
