Reigning TC2000 champion and current TCR South America championship leader Leonel Pernía will return to the FIA TCR World Tour this weekend at Monza, racing with ALM Motorsport in a Honda.
Pernía is one of the dominant forces in South American motorsport, having clinched the Argentine TC2000 championship title four times since 2019.
The 49-year-old has also expanded into TCR racing in recent years, making his début in 2024 and immediately impressing, winning two races on his way to sixth overall in the South American series.
He switched to Squadra Martino to race a Honda in 2025, and has already won three races as the comfortable championship leader after eight races.
Pernía has once previously raced in World Touring Cars, when he took part in the Monza event of the 2010 World Touring Car Championship season, scoring a best finish of tenth with the Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden team.
“I wish to thank all the people who made this possible: Squadra Martino, TCR South America and WSC,” said Pernía.
“I feel proud, because they have worked together to give me the opportunity to race in the World Tour. I feel the pressure, but my goal is still the same: to fight for the win!”
