Top time for Jake Hill in second Snetterton practice

MB Motorsport’s Jake Hill posted the fastest time in the second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Snetterton, a tenth of a second ahead of Excelr8 Motorsport’s Tom Ingram.

In hot conditions, with air temperatures of 31 degrees and track temperatures approaching 37 degrees, some ten degrees higher than the first session, lap times were notably slower.

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington was first to top the times, but the first meaningful fast lap came from Ingram after almost ten minutes, with the Hyundai driver lapping in 1 minute 57.093 seconds, quickly followed by an effort of 1:56.857.

That time then stood for another ten minutes, before Hill put his BMW at the top of the times with a lap of 1:56.741 just past the halfway mark of the session.

Ingram remained in second, not improving his time again and ultimately 0.116 seconds behind Hill, as overall times were 1.4 seconds slower than in FP1.

Team BMW’s Stephen Jelley was third, having been in the top half dozen of the timesheets throughout the session.

A late improvement in the closing seconds saw Excelr8’s Daniel Lloyd end up in fourth, six tenths off the pace, ahead of the top Honda of Team Dynamics’ Daniel Rowbottom in fifth.

Power Maxed Racing’s Ash Hand, who had been just 19th in first practice, put his Vauxhall in sixth with an impressive effort ten minutes from the end.

Jason Plato was again the best-placed BTC Racing driver, putting his Honda in seventh, ahead of Excelr8’s Tom Chilton in eighth.

The top ten was completed by the BMW of points leader Colin Turkington, running #500 this weekend in deference to his 500th race start in race three on Sunday, and Team HARD’s Bobby Thompson.

BTC racing continues to struggle with straight-line speed, with title contender Josh Cook faring better than in first practice but only in 13th, with the Bath-based racer outside the top 25 in the speed traps in any session so far this weekend.

NAPA Racing UK duo Dan Cammish and Ash Sutton again appeared to lack single-lap pace, the duo being down in 18th and 20th respectively, after ending first practice in 14th and 15th, although tema boss Pete Osborne insists there is no cause for concern.

Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 15:20 BST.
