Halfords Yuasa Racing was left “pretty disappointed” after finishing less than three tenths behind race three winner Tom Ingram in the final British Touring Car Championship race at Croft.
The 2019 runner-up made steady progress throughout the day at the twisty 2.1-mile Darlington circuit, moving up to second in the standings by virtue of his result of tenth in the opener, fifth in race two and his podium finish in the final encounter.
Cammish admitted he was disappointed not to take the victory, and rued the time he lost for the majority of the race battling to get past fellow Honda racer Tom Chilton in the BTC Racing-run Civic.
“Bit of a roadblock, wasn’t he really in the end? Not the result I wanted, I won’t lie I’m pretty disappointed to come home in second, I really thought I could have won that race,” said Cammish.
“Not the best start, I’ve made five or six on the trot now that have been great, and the one I really needed wasn’t quite there.
“We know how good Tom [Ingram] is off the line and also how good his car is in the opening laps, he did to Tom [Chilton] exactly what he did to me at Siverstone – he can basically turn it underneath you on cold tyres and disappear.
“Whatever they’re doing clearly only lasts for about half a race, because after that we come like a train. I’ve just heard Tom say he was glad to see the finish, I could have kept going round for another ten laps!
“That’s the difference in setup and it’s got him to the line and it’s got him the race win, so what they’re doing is very good.”
Despite being frustrated to miss out on victory, Cammish noted he was pleased with his performance in terms of driving across the trio of races, giving him a points haul that moves him to just seven points adrift of standings leader Ash Sutton with six races remaining.
“I’m pretty happy with my bit in terms of the actual driving in the car. I didn’t have the best qualifying and I brought it back through the grid as best I can, and we’ve had a good haul of points overall throughout the day, it’s just that win sort of escaped me at the end.”
The next round of the 2020 British Touring Car Championship will take place at Snetterton in a fortnight’s time, on the weekend of October 24-25.
