Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan withstood late-race pressure from Josh Cook’s Vauxhaull Astra to emerge victorious in race three of the British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park.
Morgan started the reverse-grid race from the third row of the grid, and made steady progress before an early safety car, and then made the move on reigning champion Ash Sutton at Goddards.
He looked in control of the race until the final few laps, when race one winner Josh Cook closed in and applied pressure to Morgan’s Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
Rounding out the podium was Aiden Moffat, who enjoyed a weight-free run through from 15th to third.
Reverse-grid polesitter Rory Butcher defended initally at the start of the race, before chaos erupted behind him at the Craner Curves.
Motorbase Performance stablemates James Cole and Sam Tordoff made contact, spearing Tordoff across the circuit and setting off a chain reaction of incidents behind.
Immediate retirements from the opening lap melee were Josh Price, Stephen Jelly, Tordoff and Cole, before Brett Smith also went off at Coppice later in the lap.
West Surrey Racing enjoyed a far more competitive showing in the final race of the day, with Rob Collard finishing fourth ahead of 2013 BTCC champion Andrew Jordan.
Defending champion Ash Sutton led after the safety car restart, but failed to stay out front, eventually dropping to sixth position.
Two-time BTCC champion Matt Neal once again made good progress, as he did in race one, finishing seventh after starting 16th.
Next was championship leader and race two winner Tom Ingram, who held on for eighth position.
Salvaging some consolation for Motorbase Performance was Tom Chilton in ninth position, with Jake Hill completing the top ten, winning the Jack Sears Trophy after making up 13 positions.
