DTM will host the first night race in the championship’s history at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
Existing floodlit track systems at the Italian venue and the soaring summer temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius have informed the initiative.
The DTM previously hosted a qualifying session under floodlights at the Nurburgring back in 2003, but has never raced in the same conditions.
The series has also introduced a standardised start time of 13:20 for its races on both Saturday and Sunday at the majority of rounds, Misano, Brands Hatch and the Hockenheim finale being the exceptions.
Fans will be permitted access to the pit lane and podium at the latter, necessitating a move to the end of the timetable to facilitate the scheme on safety grounds.
The opening round of the new season takes place at the same venue over the weekend of 4-6 May.
