Chris Smiley retains BTC Norlin Racing berth for 2018

Chris Smiley will remain with BTC Norlin Racing for a second consecutive British Touring Car Championship season.

The former Ginetta Junior, Renault UK Clio Cup and Volkswagen racer made his full season debut with the outfit in 2017, taking points finishes in a third of all starts. His best finish came at Silverstone, with seventh in the middle contest.

Having raced a Volkswagen CC with Team.HARD in 2016, next season will mark the third year in succession that Smiley has competed in different machinery, with BTC Norlin Racing recently announcing their switch to Honda Civic Type R machinery for 2018.

With team-mate Dave Newsham announcing his retirement, Smiley’s team-mate for the upcoming campaign remains unknown.

“With the Civic Type R being a double BTCC Championship-winning car, this is a hugely exciting time for me, the Norlin team and sponsors,” said Smiley.

“My expectations are high for the upcoming season after having consistent Top 10 places in the second half of the 2017 race season.

“I can’t thank Norlin and Bert Taylor enough for everything they have done for me, ensuring I’ve the best package possible for this season.”
