Testing shunt hits Attila Tassi’s weekend in Austria

Attila Tassi suffered a big crash in Friday’s testing for the TCR International Series at the Salzburgring, with the M1RA driver emerging unhurt but writing off his Honda Civic in the shunt.

The Honda driver had been second quickest in the morning’s first two hour test session, but the youngster then lost control of his car under braking between Turn 10 and Turn 11 in the second session, spearing him head-first into the barriers.

His car bounced off the barriers and rolled twice, before coming to a rest in the middle of the track.

Tassi emerged from the car seemingly unhurt but shocked, and was later taken to the medical centre for checks afterwards.

The team’s Honda Civic is reportedly damaged beyond repair. JAS Motorsport have dispatched a spare Civic to the Salzburgring, which is likely to arrive in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The fastest driver of the day ended up being TCR newcomer Dan Lloyd, who posted a time less than half a tenth quicker than more experienced Craft-Bamboo Racing team-mate Pepe Oriola, with both times being set in the afternoon session.

Tassi’s time in the morning session was good enough to land him with the third best time of the day’s in the amalgamated times, ahead of the third Craft-Bamboo SEAT of James Nash in fourth.

Defending champion Stefano Comini was the leading Audi driver in fifth, just under three tenths away from the pace.

There were a few issues for some drivers during the day, with points leader Jean-Karl Vernay picking up a puncture on his Volkswagen in the second session, whilst Mat’o Homola suffered from a broken steering arm on his Opel.

Earlier in the day Jens Reno Møller spun at the first chicane and newcomer Thomas Jäger spun at the same spot, ending up in the gravel trap.
