Opel optimises Astra ahead of 2017 TCR season

Opel have optimised their Astra TCR car ahead of the 2017 TCR season, with the Rüsselheim marque having also ‘intensified’ their cooperation with development partner Kissling Motorsport.

Having unveiled the car in 2015, the Astra TCR made limited appearances throughout 2016 in its maiden season of competition, with the car cropping up in the International Series, Germany, Portugal and BeNeLux.

Now Opel and technical partner Kissling Motorsport are in the final stage of the 350 horespower car’s technical development.

The car has already been confirmed for the 2017 TCR International Series season, with DG Sport Compétition committed to running two cars, including one for experienced Belgian Pierre-Yves Corthals.

Opel are ‘intensifying’ their cooperation with Kissling, which will see the Bad Münstereifel-based company providing all customer support for the various racing programmes, as well as developing and building the cars.

“We thus bundle all building blocks necessary for our customer racing program under one roof,” explained Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott. “This ensures streamlined processes, direct communication channels and efficient service for Astra TCR customers.”

The car will take part in the official ‘Balance of Performance’ [BoP] test at the Adria International Raceway on the 1 and 2 March, with its homologation to follow later in the month.
