Thed Björk moved up to second overall in the FIA TCR World Tour drivers’ championship, after leading Yann Ehrlacher home in a Cyan Racing 1-2 in the final race at the Inje Speedium circuit in South Korea.
Björk started the race from pole position thanks to being the highest scorer in the weekend prior to the race, and the Swede benefitted from having points leader Ehrlacher alongside.
At the start, Björk had a good getaway from the line and led Ehrlacher into Turn 1, with the duo thereafter remaining comfortable at the front throughout the race.
Björk scored his third win of the season by 1.5 seconds from Ehrlacher, and in doing so has moved up to second in the standings, 32 points behind Ehrlacher.
GOAT Racing’s Esteban Guerrieri moved past HMO Customer Racings’ Josh Buchan at the start after the latter was slow away from the line, but the Honda driver had no answer to the pace of the leading blue cars and had to settle for a podium in third.
BRC Racing’s Mikel Azcona, who won the reverse-grid second race, was fourth, the Spaniard slotting into the place at the opening sequence of corners after Buchan had to catch a slide and Cyan Racing’s Santiago Urrutia went wide.
Urrutia was fifth, despite picking up cosmetic damage in a rub with Azcona on the first lap, ahead of Buchan in sixth.
SP Compétition’s Aurélien Comte spent much of the race running in eighth, but on lap 14 the CUPRA driver dived inside Cyan’s Ma Qing Hua and took seventh, leaving Ma to settle for eighth.
The top ten was completed by BRC Racing’s Norbert Michelisz and GOAT Racing’s Ignacio Montenegro, the two having swapped positions at the start.
Solite Indigo Racing’s Junesung Park scored the South Korean team’s best result of the weekend with 11th, ahead of HMO Customer Racing’s Ryan MacMillan in 12th, although GOAT Racing’s Dušan Borković had initially crossed the line in the position but was later penalised by five seconds for contact on the final lap.
Thus Evolve Racing’s Lo Sze Ho claimed 13th, ahead of Borković in 14th and BRC’s Néstor Girolami in 15th.
Diego Moran once again won the TCR Asia sub-race with 17th.
The TCR World Tour and TCR Asia continues at Zhuzhou in China in two weeks’ time.
