Tom Ingram leads Senna Proctor again in second practice

Tom Ingram doubled up in the second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Croft, going even quicker below the qualifying lap record.

The Team Vertu driver had earlier in the day topped the opening practice session with a time which was already half a second quicker than the qualifying benchmark set last year.

But Ingram went a further 0.153 seconds quicker in second practice to remain the man to beat, with team-mate Senna Proctor again his closest challenger, albeit over half a second back himself this time.

The session was also interrupted twice by red flags – the first coming after 20 minutes when Team Vertu’s Tom Chilton went into the barriers at the exit of Clervaux, causing considerable damage to his Hyundai haead of qualifying.

A second red flag in the final minute brought the session to an early end, when James Dorlin also went off the road at the same corner as Chilton.

Toyota’s Árón Taylor-Smith was classified in third, although the Irishman had posted an identical lap time to Restart Racing’s Chris Smiley, who was left in fourth, putting the two drivers in different groups for the first part of qualifying later in the day.

Toyota’s Gordon Shedden was fifth, ahead of Chilton in sixth, who had put in a quick lap just before his shunt.

Daniel Rowbottom was the leading NAPA Racing UK driver in seventh, ahead of team-mate Ash Sutton in eighth, with the top ten being completed by Restart Racing’s Daniel Lloyd and WSR’s Aiden Moffat.

Reigning champion Jake Hill did not take part in the session due to illness, being temporarily replaced by Colin Turkington, who ended up in 17th. A decision will be made prior to qualifying whether Hill can get back in the car or if Turkington will take over for the rest of the weekend.

Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 15:30 BST.
