Jake Hill endures ‘one of the most challenging weekends’ at Snetterton

Laser Tools Racing’s Jake Hill endured ‘one of the most challenging weekends’ of his British Touring Car Championship career at Snetterton, as the reigning champion struggled to just one top ten finish.

Hill was twice a winner at the Norfolk venue in 2024, but he struggled for pace on Saturday, qualifying his BMW in only 20th for the opening race, over a second off the pace in his Q1 group, from which he failed to progress.

Contact from the Toyotas on the opening lap of the first race put paid to any chance of an early recovery drive, consigning Hill to also start race two near the back of the grid after pitting for repairs to the suspension damage on his car.

The 31-year-old made up five places on the opening lap of the second race, and eventually finished in 11th, before following it up with a ninth-place finish in the final race of the day after making modest progress.

Hill remains third in the drivers’ standings but is now 40 points adrift of championship leader Ash Sutton.

“It’s been one of the most challenging weekends of my touring car career and certainly one of the most challenging I can remember since coming to WSR,” said Hill.

“We’ve still learned a lot, which is good for progress with both the car and the team, but it’s been difficult with my best result being ninth.”

WSR Team Principal Dick Bennetts says the team will continue to work hard to overcome their issues ahead of the next event at Thruxton in June.

“It’s been a tough weekend, but we did make progress from Saturday into race day, which is a positive, and got the Manufacturers’ win in race two”, said Bennetts.

“Both Jake and Aiden [Moffat]’s days were hampered by what happened in race one.

“We clearly have work to do for Thruxton, so working on that will be the focus over the coming days.”
