Daniel Lloyd enjoyed his best weekend in the British Touring Car Championship since 2022 at Snetterton, where he scored a brace of top ten results, including two Independents’ Class wins.
Lloyd had struggled in the first two events of the year to bring home good results, with incidents outside of his control meaning he failed to score in the second and third races of each meeting.
Finishing second practice in second at Snetterton, Lloyd went on to qualify his Restart Racing Hyundai in seventh for the opening race, missing out on Q3 by 0.097 seconds.
After passing Team Vertu’s Tom Chilton on the opening lap of race one, the duo battled hard for and Lloyd finally secured the place on lap three, before he then moved past Adam Morgan for fifth, and the top Independent, just past the mid-distance.
The 33-year-old went one better in race two, where he was again on the soft tyre, by running as high as second for much of the race after overtaking the hard-tyre shod drivers ahead, even briefly challenging for the lead, before slipping back to fourth behind Morgan and Chilton late in the race to finish in fourth.
Like other drivers, Lloyd struggled on the hard tyre, and in race three he slipped down to 16th, albeit second of those in the hard rubber behind Morgan, with a safety car period not helping him to finish any higher up.
Overall, Lloyd was pleased with his weekend performance, which has seen him move up to fourth in the Independent Drivers’ standings and 14th overall.
“It’s been an amazing weekend and I’m over the moon with his things went,” said Lloyd. “It’s like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders after two tough meetings and things were great from the moment we hit the track.
“The car felt better than ever, and we were able to score our best result in qualifying and then picked up two really strong results.
“To go forwards to P5 in the first race was good and then we made more improvements for race two where the car mega. Getting into the lead for the first time this season was brilliant and there are a few things I could maybe have done different that would have allowed us to hold on.
“However, another Indy win was fantastic for both me and the team, and gave us a big haul of points.
“We got a good start in race three, but the safety car ruined any chance of a result when we were on the hard tyre. I got knocked around a bit and slipped down the order, which is just how it was – and the fact we were second of the cars on the hard tyre showed we did what we could.
“That result won’t take away from a mega day on track, and it was great to do it in front of guests. We also got mega TV coverage for all of my sponsors and have some circuits coming up that I really like, so I’m confident we can build on these results going forwards.
“A huge thank you had to go to the team for their efforts, and hopefully this weekend is just the start!”
