Tom Ingram doubles up in Donington Park practice

Team Vertu’s Tom Ingram continued to lead the way in practice for the British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park, as NAPA Racing’s Ash Sutton was his closest challenger in the afternoon session.

Ingram had earlier lapped the National circuit in 1 minute 7.364 seconds in the morning session, and although he topped the times in second practice, he was unable to emulate his earlier pace, lapping in 1:07.429.

That came despite the 2022 champion being black-flagged for exceeding track limits, making him one of seven drivers to be hit with the indiscretion, although drivers were allowed to return to the session after a talking to from the clerk of the course.

Sutton was 0.360 seconds behind as the best of the Alliance Racing drivers, with Team Vertu’s Adam Morgan, who had been fourth earlier in the day, in third, a further three tenths back.

It was once again three EXCELR8 Hyundais in the top four places, as Tom Chilton was fourth, ahead of NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish in fifth.

Reigning champion Jake Hill was sixth and the leading BMW driver, the only other person within a second of the pace.

Power Maxed Racing’s Mikey Doble once again featured in the top ten as the leading Independent in seventh, ahead of Restart Racing’s Daniel Lloyd in eighth.

The top ten was completed by WSR’s Charles Rainford and One Motorsport’s Josh Cook, the latter having undergone an engine change between the first and second session.

None of the Speedworks Motorsport-run Toyota drivers made it into the top ten; James Dorlin was once again the quickest of the quartet in 12th.

Qualifying gets underway at 15:10 BST.
