Urrutia excluded, Björk and Butti get post-race penalties in Mid-Ohio

Cyan Racing can no longer claim a 1-2-3 finish in the second FIA TCR World Tour race at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course, after Thed Björk received a five-second time penalty.

Björk was deemed to have gained an unfair advantage when he took the lead from GOAT Racing’s Marco Butti on lap 13, having tapped the rear of the Honda to unsettle it at Turn 9.

The Swede had gone on to finish third on the road, but the addition of five seconds to his race time drops him to sixth.

Butti had finished in tenth but was demoted behind Volcano Motorsport’s John Filippi after also receiving a five second penalty, for contact with Santiago Urrutia earlier in the race. That became ninth after Urrutia’s penalty.

Urrutia’s penalty was the most severe. After the race, the Uruguayan drove through the field and made contact with Esteban Guerrieri’s car, knocking him into the barriers.

That incident saw Urrutia excluded from the entire event, losing him the seventh and eighth place finishes he would have otherwise scored.
