Jake Hill on top in opening damp practice at Snetterton

Laser Tools Racing’s Jake Hill set the pace in a damp opening practice session for the British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton.

Hill was on top of the times for much of the 40-minute opening session in Norfolk, finally setting his benchmark time of 2 minutes 10.166 seconds ten minutes before the end of the rain-affected session.

The BMW racer laid down the benchmark four times during the session and ultimately only completed eight laps as he comfortably saw off the opposition.

NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish was second fastest, some 0.461 seconds behind Hill, with his team-mate Ash Sutton in third, just 0.025 seconds further back.

WSR’s new signing Bobby Thompson impressed on his first appearance in the striking Purple-liveried Zeus Cloud Racing BMW, posting the fourth best lap, just over half a second off stable-mate Hill.

Colin Turkington was Team BMW’s top driver in fifth, making it three BMWs in the top five, albeit with the Northern Irishman being over a second off teammate Hill’s pace.

Turkington’s team-mate Adam Morgan was tenth fastest, but ended his session in the barriers at Turn 6.

Rob Huff was the leading Toyota in sixth, although team-mate Andrew Watson had an off-track excursion in his Corolla and ended up 13th.

Second practice is scheduled to get underway at 12:25 BST.
