Tom Ingram stays on top with last gasp lap in second practice

Tom Ingram kept his EXCELR8 Motorsport Hyundai at the top of the timesheets in the second practice session for the British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park with a last gasp lap time.

The session was briefly affected by light rain halfway through, which saw the field largely return to the pits and wait for the shower to pass. As a result, most drivers completed slightly fewer laps.

NAPA Racing UK’s Daniel Rowbottom and Dan Cammish, and Laser Tools Racing’s Jake Hill initially traded the top times, with Cammish holding on to the top spot for 22 minutes from ten-minutes into the session.

Rowbottom then improved twice in quick succession to take over at the top with a lap of 1 minute 8.255 seconds, but he was only on top for ten seconds before Ingram resumed at the top of the times, improving on two successive laps to end up with a time of 1:07.979.

That was just over a tenth of a second faster than he had been in the morning’s first session, and was almost three tenths of a second clear of Rowbottom.

Cammish ended up in third, despite improving from his earlier top time, with BMW’s Colin Turkington in fourth, just over half a second adrift.

At Power Maxed Racing, this time it was Mikey Doble to end the session with the outfit’s best lap in fifth, ahead of Hill in sixth.

Adam Morgan was directly behind his stablemate in seventh, with Rob Huff this time the top Toyota driver in eighth.

The top ten was completed by the Aiden Moffat in the LKQ Speedworks satellite team and NAPA Racing UK’s Ash Sutton.

The field will now be split into two groups, based on even and odd numbers in the ranking of this session, to decide who goes into each respective qualifying group.

Daryl DeLeon notably improved on his FP1 pace, the Duckhams Racing driver ending up 14th fastest and as the leading CUPRA.

EXCELR8’s Tom Chilton was again unable to post a meaningful lap time due to ongoing wastegate issues with the turbo on his car.

Qualifying is scheduled to start at 15:25 BST.
