TCR Germany returns in 2024 with six-event calendar

TCR Germany will return as a standalone series in 2024, following the announcement that former touring car racer and team boss Franz Engstler is to return as the promoter of the series.

The German series was one of the first TCR championships established, holding its inaugural season in 2016, and the series arguably peaked in 2017 when it regularly attracted around 40 entries.

In 2022, the series struggled to get more than ten entries, and for 2023 most of those competitors moved on to new series, leaving the series with no more than a trio of committed participants. Instead, those entrants ended up being incorporated into the Spezial Tourenwagen Trophy.

Engstler was previously promoter of the series for its first four seasons in 2016 – 2019, before ADAC took over and grid numbers continued to dwindle.

“We aim to go back to the basics,” said Engstler. “This means, affordable motorsport for drivers and teams as well as thrilling racing with a variety of car brands and maximum accessibility.”

BG Sportpromotion, which includes former Engstler employee Kurt Treml as part of its management, will also be involved in the series.

“We are excited to be able to apply our motorsport expertise to TCR Germany,” said Rene Binna and Christoph Gerlach of the organisation.

The season will consist of six events held in three countries – two in Austria, one in Slovakia and three in Germany.

Three events (Red Bull Ring, Slovakiaring and Salzburgring) will be held in conjunction with TCR Eastern Europe.

The events in Germany will be part of the ADAC Racing Weekends.
