Biggest Australian TCR grid to-date to tackle Sydney Motorsport Park

The largest field of TCR cars ever to take part in a touring car race in Australia will assemble on the grid for this weekend’s TCR World Tour races at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The entry list includes a total of 25 cars from six different manufacturers and drivers from ten different countries, thanks to the addition of the nine TCR World Tour entrants who are all of different nationalities.

It is the first of two TCR World Tour race weekends which also count towards the TCR Australia championship, which will be decided at Mount Panorama a week later.

This weekend’s races in Sydney will be held under floodlights, with the opening race getting underway on Friday night.

The field of 25 cars is the biggest TCR grid in the series’ history in Australia, surpassing the previous high of 22 cars at Bathurst in 2021.

Joining the regular competitors on the grid will be Jimmy Clairet, entered by GRM in a Peugeot 308 TCR. His brother Teddy Clairet will take over for the event at Bathurst a week later.

Brad Harris, who missed the last round at Sandown, will return to the grid with Wall Racing in a Honda Civic FK7, and he will be joined by twin brother Will Harris in the Honda formerly raced by Tony D’Alberto.

Reigning champion D’Alberto, meanwhile, will move up to a new FL5 Honda Civic, with Argentine TCR World Tour regular Néstor Girolami joining him in a second new-generation Civic. Girolami was last week confirmed as taking part in all of the remaining TCR World Tour races.

Aside from Will Harris, however, no new domestic racers will feature in the return of international touring car racing to Australia.
