Andy Wilmot returns to TCR UK to honour Dan Kirby

Andy Wilmot will return to the TCR UK series for the championship finale at Brands Hatch later this month, honouring his late friend Dan Kirby.

Wilmot, who contested the full season in 2022, has already contested two events in 2023, in a Hyundai i30 N with Area Motorsport at Croft before racing a CUPRA Leon Competición for Rob Boston Racing at Silverstone.

He will race the same car that Kirby raced in the opening two rounds of the season, complete with a tribute livery and sporting Kirby’s name and number on the car.

“It’s been a difficult time for me, having lost a friend, business partner and team-mate in such a cruel way and I want to take the chance to remember Dan in the best way I can,” said Wilmot.

“Racing with his number and with a tribute livery on the car that he originally raced earlier in the season, means that I can give him the send-off that I feel he would have wanted.

“I am so thankful for the support that I have been given in getting back on the grid for the season finale, it means so much that so many sponsors and partners have been involved in making this happen.”

Championship promoter Stewart Lines also wanted to honour Kirby, who contested 22 TCR UK races between 2020 and 2023, including finishing third overall in 2021.

“Dan Kirby was a good friend of Nicki & myself and was always a pleasure to deal with on and off track,,” added Lines. “It’s only fitting that we are involved in doing something at our final event this year to honour his name.”
