Mikey Doble takes maiden pole at Silverstone breaking the season streak

Mikey Doble put together a perfect lap in Q2 at Silverstone to put his Power Maxed Racing Astra on pole position.

Doble set a 57.599 to take pole position with the outright fastest lap of the weekend to break the Napa Racing UK season streak. The difference from pole to second was a mere 0.012 seconds.

Alongside Doble on the front row is Colin Turkington who is still mathematically able to win the championship. Turkington set the joint most laps in the final session to make sure the Team BMW car got a lap in not scrubbed out by track limits.

Championship protagonist Tom Ingram will start from third place on the grid. The top four in the championship are all mixed between second and fifth on the grid. Ingram needs to prevent a 67 point gap to fight for the title at Brands Hatch.

Jake Hill places his MB Motorsport car in fourth place. The man who topped the opening session of the weekend and also Q1 will be disappointed to not convert that pace from across all sessions.

Ash Sutton could only place it in fifth yet only 0.064 seconds off of Doble’s lap time. The lack of hybrid made its difference felt as the championship leader could not break into the top four.

Tom Chilton made it a second EXCELR8 Hyundai in the top six at a track at which he has always performed well. Again the field is so tight it is Chilton in sixth who is the first outside of one tenth from Doble’s time.

Dan Cammish came home in seventh after not quite being able to pull one solid lap together in the dying moments of the session. With many unable to complete a competitive lap or lose out to track limits seventh was the best for Cammish on the day.

Árón Taylor-Smith could not emulate the pace of his teammate in eighth place. Despite only being 0.247 seconds off the pace the Irishman finds himself on the fourth row of the grid.

Rory Butcher missed out on pinching that eighth place in the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK car. Only missing out on the place by 0.034 seconds. Butcher was the last to set a competitive time in the session.

Sam Osborne was unfortunate in the final session as track limits got the better of him. In the end resulting in a 10th place start on Sunday. In Q1 Ricky Collard and Bobby Thompson received black flags for tripping over track limits too many times.
