Ash Sutton storms to Thruxton victory for fifth win of the season

Ash Sutton won from pole to see of Tom Ingram and Josh Cook in the NAPA Racing UK Ford. The championship leader led by two seconds throughout.

Suttons hard work on Saturday paid off for him come race one on Sunday. After leading from the start it took five laps to build a gap of two seconds. Once that gap was made it ebbed and flowed through the traffic before Sutton would eventually win by 2.513 seconds.

Ingram was more focused on the Honda behind him than the Ford in front of him. The EXCELR8 driver had Cook in his mirrors for the entirety of the race. The gap started to grow over the last two laps growing to 1.573 seconds across the line.

In fourth was the lead BMW in the form of MB Motorsports Jake Hill. After starting fifth Hill got ahead of Mikey Doble off the line and remained there throughout. 4.420 seconds was the gap to the podium with some speed to find for race two.

Dan Cammish put in a fine performance starting in ninth and coming home in fifth. The NAPA Racing UK driver made his moves early making three off the opening lap. The moves continued as he passed Colin turkington for fifth on lap five unable to catch Hill.

Turkington did not disappear once Cammish had passed. The Team BMW driver came across the line only 0.375 seconds behind Cammish. Turkington, like Hill, passed Doble on the launch before falling behind Cammish to finish where he started.

Rory Butcher had another impressive drive working his way forward from 10th on the grid to finish seventh. The Toyota Gazoo Racing UK car showed more pace than it had on Saturday. Like the drivers in front, Butcher had passed Doble after lap five into seventh and remained there for the duration of the race.

Next came a pair of Power Maxed Racing Vauxhalls with Doble leading the pair. Doble put on a defensive show to be proud of keeping off the likes of Ricky Collard and Adam Morgan which allowed his teammate to finish behind him.

Árón Taylor-Smith was the teammate of Doble to come home in ninth. Taylor-Smith lost places early on before fighting back to finish one place behind where he started. A double top 10 finish for the team will be a proud moment in the opening race.

Bobby Thompson was the driver that rounded out the top 10. Originally starting in 13th Thompson immediately made up a position due to Andrew Watson starting from the pit lane. With the fight of Doble, Collard and Morgan, Thompson capitalised to take 10th on the final lap.
