Ash Sutton drove like he has all season long at Thruxton leaving The NAPA Racing UK team to top qualifying at every round so far this year.
Sutton had not topped a session on the opening day of the weekend until the all important qualifying session. The championship leader took pole by 0.210 seconds to second in the standings Tom Ingram.
Ingram has made a habit of second place results so far this year. This time he was looking back to third as Josh Cook was only 0.036 seconds behind. Cook had set the pace all day but could not a put a time together when it mattered.
Mikey Doble put in the performance of qualifying putting his Power Maxed Racing car in fourth. The pace was something we had not seen from Doble so far this season. The pace was in the car though with all three Vauxhalls inside the top eight.
Jake Hill came home in fifth again making it five manufacturers inside the top five. The MB Motorsport driver was again the lead BMW only missing out on the second row by 0.033 seconds.
After one BMW came another in the form of Colin Turkington. Turkington does not have the most wins in the team at BMW with that title going to Adam Morgan. That being said, a top six performance will be a good starting point for progress on Sunday.
Behind Turkington was the remaining Vauxhalls. Andrew Watson outpaced Árón Taylor-Smith to be the second Power Maxed Racing car. Taylor-Smith had missed out on seventh by 0.073 seconds.
Dan Cammish was the second Ford in the field appearing in ninth. The NAPA Racing UK driver was late back out after a delayed red flag caused by teammate Dan Rowbottom moving a tyre barrier at the final chicane.
Rory Butcher rounded out the top 10 as the highest placed Toyota. The Scot put in a time that meant teammate Ricky Collard was pushed out of the top 10. The gap was only 0.025 seconds between the two Toyota Gazoo Racing UK cars.
