Colin Turkington in the Team BMW car would better his position from the morning session taking the top spot that belonged to Ash Sutton in the Napa Racing Ford earlier on in the day.
The conditions had become warmer in the afternoon at Donington Park and no interruptions to break the green flag running in the final practice session of the weekend meant for different run plans throughout.
The session got underway as the first did with many installation laps and check laps. In the opening five minutes the top was full with BMWs. This was again until Sutton put in a lap; before him and Turkington would trade the top spot continuously.
Turkington was the first to dip into the 1:07’s in this session after Sutton was the only one able to in the morning session. Adam Morgan and Daniel Rowbottom would complete the Team BMW – Napa Racing Ford front four in the early moments.
Jake Hill in the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW, Dan Cammish in the Napa Racing Ford, Ricky Collard in the Toyota Gazoo Racing , Stephen Jelley in the Team BMW and Tom Chilton in the EXCELR8 Hyundai were all exchanging lap times within the top 10 with Andrew Watson rounding it out in the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall.
A surge to the pitlane and the remaining cars on track not improving left a lull on track in the middle of the session.
Pace began to show for Tom Ingram in the EXCELR8 Hyundai with 10 minutes remaining after getting next to no running after coming to a halt and causing a red flag in the opening session. Moving inside the top 10 and then up to P4 a lap later.
Dan Lloyd in the Autobrite Direct Cupra was next to make a jump up in the later stages into the top 10. Setting a time just shy of seven tenths off the back of Turkington. Lloyd would then improve again two laps later up to P8 displacing Collard and Jelley.
Rowbottom, Hill and Chilton all jumped up the time sheet one after the other to move up into P2, P3 and P4 splitting Turkington and Sutton at the forefront with less than five minutes to go.
This would leave Turkington P1 for the session but importantly, faster than Sutton was this morning. Behind the four-time champion was the trio of Rowbottom, Hill and Chilton. Sutton was next in P5 unable to replicate his time from the morning.
Collard put in a good session to take P6 ahead of Adam Morgan in his Team BMW car. Then Cammish in P8 with Ingram in P9 bringing some hope forward after the lack of track time in the practice before. Lloyd would round out the top 10 after putting together an impressive stint in the latter stages of the session.
