TCR World Tour confirms two dates in South America

The 2023 TCR World Tour will feature two events in South America this year, with the series visiting circuits in El Pinar, Uruguay and San Luis, Argentina in conjunction with TCR South America in the inaugural season.

El Pinar in Uruguay, also known as the Autódromo Víctor Borrat Fabini, which has been a mainstay in the first two seasons of TCR South America, will host the TCR World Tour for the fifth round on 18 – 20 August.

The next round of the World Tour will take place just a week later, on 25 – 27 August, in San Luis, Argentina. The venue has not been explicitly named, but could be the Autódromo Rosendo Hernández. The only other circuit in the city is the Potrero de los Funes circuit, which last held racing in 2018.

El Pinar opened in 1956 and the circuit was extended and modernised in 2017. The circuit in San Luis opened in 2003, and was revamped just four years later in 2007.

The venues for the two remaining TCR World Tour rounds will be announced soon.

“I’m delighted that we have finalised deals for TCR World Tour’s South American events,” said President of WSC Marcello Lotti. “We wish to thank the promoter of TCR South America, AUVO in Uruguay and the Government of the province of San Luis for their support.

“We strongly wanted to bring the TCR World Tour there, because touring car competition is hugely popular in the region, and also because TCR South America during its first two seasons has established itself as one of the most competitive TCR series worldwide.”

Federico Punteri, President of TCR South America, was pleased to be able to complete a deal which will see the TCR World Tour as the only international car racing series to visit Argentina in 2023.

“We are very happy to announce with WSC Group, the two TCR World Tour events in our region,” added Punteri. “We are proud to bring the best international racing to Uruguay and Argentina in 2023 once again.

“This is a clear sign of the global support that TCR has, and that the concept of this motorsport series continues to grow.

“It will be a pleasure to have the best touring car drivers sharing the track with our TCR South America field.

“We have worked very hard with all parties involved to finalise this and would like to especially thank AUVO in Uruguay, and its President Julio Maglione, and the Government of the Province of San Luis for the trust placed in bringing the best touring car racing of the world to race in our region together with TCR South America.

“The TCR World Tour event will be the only international car race event that Argentina will have this season.”
