Comtoyou Racing’s Tom Coronel nudged the times ever faster in the second TCR Europe practice session at the Nürburgring, beating Halder Motorsport’s Jack Young to the best lap.
Coronel was the fastest driver after just over five minutes of the session, initially with an effort of 1 minute 35.667 seconds before then twice improving his lap time on the next laps.
However, he was soon knocked off the top spot by first Marco Butti and latterly the Honda of Young, who held the top time for much of the second half of the session.
Coronel only reclaimed the top spot with just under two minutes to go, settling on a fastest lap of 1:34.645 seconds to lower the bar from first practice by 0.044 seconds.
Young, who had earlier been fourth in FP1, was second, ahead of Janík Motorsport’s Jáchym Galáš in fifth as the leading Hyundai driver.
Pepe Orila improved from his first practice effort to go fifth in his Aggressive Team Italia Elantra, with the second Janík car of Mat’o Homola in fifth.
First practice pace-setter Nicola Baldan was sixth in the leading Target Competition Hyundai, ahead of team-mate Josh Files in seventh.
Isidro Callejas was Volcano Motorsport’s top CUPRA driver in eighth, with the top ten being completed by Sébastien Loeb Racing’s John Filippi and Élite Motorsport’s Butti, who had not improved on the time that put him fastest after 10 minutes, leaving him to slip down the order. In fact, Butti went on to effectively end anyone else’s chances of improving when he stopped on track with two minutes to go, bringing out yellow flags at Turn 6.
Volcano Motorsport’s Klim Gavrilov failed to post a time due to stopping in the pits with a broken driveshaft on his CUPRA.
Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 08:55 CEST (07:55 BST) on Saturday morning, followed by race one at 17:00 CEST (16:00 BST).
