Janík Motorsport to field two Hyundai Elantras for Homola and Galáš

Czech outfit Janík Motorsport has confirmed that it will field two Hyundai Elantra N TCR cars for Mat’o Homola and Jáchym Galáš in this year’s TCR Europe series.

The news means that both of the team’s drivers from 2021 will remain on board for a second season, although it has elected to ditch its pair of Hyundai i30 N cars for newer Elantra N models.

Last year, Homola may have missed out on a top ten ranking, ending the year in 13th overall, but he picked up a victory at Monza when the leading two cars on track were excluded from the result.

Galáš, part of the Hyundai Motorsport Junior Programme, in his first full season in the championship was 17th overall, having secured a best result of sixth on two occasions, at the Nürburgring and Barcelona.

Homola, 27, has raced Hyundai machinery for the past three seasons, firstly with Target Competition, then BRC Racing, before joining Janík Motorsport last year.

As part of its preparations for the coming season, including the switch to Kumho tyres, the team will participate in the opening round of TCR Eastern Europe at the Hungaroring this weekend.

“We are very pleased to be able to continue racing with Hyundai’s TCR cars while continuing our participation in the prestigious European series – TCR Europe,” said team owner Václav Janík.

“We feel great support from our partner Hyundai Motor Czech, which in conjunction with the Hyundai production plant, actively supports our racing activities.

“Everything is perfectly completed by the cooperation with Hyundai Motorsport, when Jáchym once again joined the junior program of this factory team.

“This season will be a great challenge for us again and we believe that thanks to the talented driving team of Mat’o and Jáchym, we will be able to reach the highest places.”

Homola is looking to add to his tally of two victories in the European series.

“I am extremely happy to start my fourth season in TCR Europe in partnership with Hyundai Slovakia,” said Homola. “I appreciate the partnership with the brand, which is winning in touring car races all over the world, as well as in selling of civil cars and is achieving great results with its sport division of N models.

“I believe we will be successful together this season. I will make my maximum again, in order to achieve more victories, represent the Hyundai brand, my partners and my great fans. Keep fingers crossed.”

Galáš added: “This season, I will try to capitalise on the experience gained and turn it into the highest possible ranking.

“It is a great honour for me to be included in the Hyundai Motorsport junior program again.

“Last but not least, I rely on the experienced Hyundai Janík Motorsport team, which will provide me with a great background for achieving the best results.”
