Fabian Coulthard’s deal in TCR Australia extended once again

After securing a double victory last weekend at Phillip Island, Fabian Coulthard’s deal to race in the TCR Australia series has been extended once again, with continued backing from broadcaster Stan Sport.

Coulthard joined the series for the season opener at Symmons Plains, initially on a one-race deal, before it was extended to also cover the second event at Phillip Island last weekend.

Coulthard’s pace improved in his second weekend in the car, as he qualified in ninth before going on to finish fourth in the opening race.

The New Zealander then came from seventh on the race two reverse grid to claim victory, before sensationally following up with another win later in the day on Sunday.

His performances have left him fourth in the drivers’ standings, just 24 points off the series lead, and he has now been confirmed to continue to race in the series at the next round at Mount Panorama on 16 – 17 April.

The former Supercars racer was previously a podium finisher at Bathurst in 2017 when he shared a car with current Wall Racing team-mate Tony D’Alberto.

“It’s great to be back for Bathurst,” said Coulthard. “We’re having a lot of fun doing it and winning so trophies, so for me, it’s a win-win.

“For me, Bathurst is the unknown. I’ll have to go away and collate all of the information that I can to try and get the information myself to see what the cars are like there.

“There’s no substitute for driving it. I went on iRacing earlier to drive a TCR car at Phillip Island, and it turns out it’s similar, but not perfectly accurate as I would have liked, so I’ll just get a feel for it.

“It feels good [to get first wins]. The first one was a reverse grid, so it was nice to win, but nice to win outright when all of the quick guys were at the front.

“I had a great battle with Will Brown at the front in that final race. It was nice, clean and fair, so it was good to come away with the win.”
