Rally driver Eddie Maguire will join the field for this weekend’s opening TCR Australia event at Symmons Plains Raceway, driving a Volkswagen Golf GTi entered by Melbourne Performance Centre.
Maguire has plenty of experience of rallying on both gravel and asphalt, but this weekend will be the Tasmanian local’s first foray into circuit racing.
Despite his lack of racing experience, he knows the circuit well, having used it extensively for pre-event preparation and testing.
“We’ve done a lot of gravel and tarmac rallying with quite a bit of success, but after winning Targa Tasmania last year we just wanted to look for some different things to do in motorsport,” said Maguire.
“I haven’t got any circuit racing experience at all and I’ve never driven a front-wheel-drive race car.
“I’m hoping I can get my head around it in practice and we’ll see how we go.”
