Jonas Karklys confirms return to TCR Germany in 2022

Lithuanian racer Jonas Karklys will return to the ADAC TCR Germany series for a second successive season in 2022, again racing a Hyundai i30 N TCR for his one-car team.

Karklys, 32, made his début in TCR last year, taking part in the full TCR Germany season, where he ended the year sixth overall in the drivers’ standings.

A highlight was victory in the final round at the Nürburgring, although he stood on the podium three times in total, including at the Lausitzring and Hockenheimring.

Karklys also took part in a one-off entry into the TCR eastern Europe series in 2021, winning race one at the Slovakiaring in August.

Karklys says he is happy with the overall performance of last year, and is hoping to build on his experience in 2022.

“Before the season we didn’t know what to expect because it was my first season at the wheel of a TCR car,” said Karklys.

“We knew that the ADAC TCR Germany is one of the best racing series, with really fast drivers and good teams. The first season was exciting.

“As a team we had to learn many things, including working with the tyres, car settings and of course getting to know some tracks.

“All in all we are more than happy with the performance we put in last season.

“It’s hard to predict or have exact targets for the new season because you don’t yet know how many drivers and teams will take part and where we can stand.

“We’re a small team with one car, but we want to represent our team and Lithuania as best we can.

“We know we’ll be focused and working hard in every race. And at the end of the season we will see if our work was good enough or not.”
