Jessica Bäckman to race in TCR Germany in 2022

Jessica Bäckman will take part in the full season of ADAC TCR Germany in 2022, racing a Hyundai i30 N TCR for ROJA Motorsport, as she takes part in a separate season to brother Andreas for the first time.

Jessica, 24, has three times previously made guest appearances in the German series, beginning in 2019 when she contested events at Most and the Hockenheimring, where she claimed a second-place finish.

The Swede then returned to the series for a one-off outing in 2021, finishing sixth at the Nürburgring.

Having competed in a curtailed FIA World Touring Car Cup campaign last year, as well as a one-off outing in the STCC, Jessica is looking forward to her new challenge.

“[In 2019] I raced in TCR Germany and I was second at the Hockenheimring and close to my first win,” said Jessica.

“My goal for this season is to fight for the top positions in the championship and to take my first win in TCR.

“It will be fun to compete in TCR Germany again. I like both the race format and the German circuits.”

For the past four years, the Bäckman siblings have raced side-by-side in the same series – TCR UK / STCC in 2018, TCR Europe in 2019 and 2020 and WTCR in 2021.

2022 marks the first time they will take on separate full-season campaigns, with Andreas signing for Lestrup Racing in a yet-to-be-announced car brand.

Andreas Klinge, Team Manager of ROJA Motorsport, believes Jessica can perform strongly for the team, which will field three Hyundais this year, including one for team owner Robin Jahr.

“We are very proud to welcome Jessica to our team for the ADAC TCR Germany 2022 season,” said Klinge.

“I know and have followed Jessica’s career for quite a while and she already did a guest start in 2019 for my former team Engstler Motorsport in ADAC TCR Germany at Most.

“I am totally convinced of her both very strong driving skills and her fighting spirit and I am sure that Jessica will achieve stunning results in her first full season entry in ADAC TCR Germany series.”
