Crown Racing will run Gabriel Lusquiños in TCR South America

Crown Racing has confirmed Gabriel Lusquiños as one of its two drivers for the 2022 TCR South America series, with the Brazilian racing a Honda Civic Type-R TCR.

The Brazilian team already announced it will make its début in the series this year, and it has now confirmed its first driver.

28-year-old Lusquiños previously raced in Cópa do Brasil de Formula Renault in 2015, where he was champion, before switching to tin-tops in the Campeonato Brasileño de Marcas and Stock Light.

The Rio de Janeiro native finished eighth overall in the Stock Car Light category last year.

“I am very excited about this new stage of my career,” said Lusquiños. “This will be my first full championship in a front-wheel drive car and it is a car that I really enjoy driving and that makes me even more motivated for the season.

“Also, it is my first international championship and that is also an extra injection of spirit to pursue our goals.

“Crown Racing is a very competent team that has won many Brazilian titles. It will be great to have the experience of William Lube, Gustavo Câmara and Cacá Bueno.

“I am sure it will be a very successful partnership, I am looking forward to starting this new season.”

Gustavo Câmara, Technical Manager of Crown Racing, is hoping for a multi-year stay in TCR South America.

“With pride and great enthusiasm, Crown Racing is starting this new venture within TCR South America, which has already shown clear growth in South America and with great recognition worldwide,” added Câmara.

“It is a great challenge to be able to be ahead with our riders and adapt to the category. The achievements within Brazilian motorsport will surely shorten our path a bit, but we recognize that we will have a difficult competition with the Brazilian and Argentine teams that are already in the category.

“We hope it will be a season of growth and adaptation and, mainly, of consolidation within TCR South America for many seasons.”
