Gordon Shedden holds off Dan Lloyd to take Donington Park race one win

Halfords Racing With Cataclean’s Gordon Shedden held off Power Maxed Racing’s Dan Lloyd to claim his first win of the season in round 25 of the British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park.

Shedden, who had started race one of the day from pole position, made a fine start that saw him lead into the first corner and he didn’t look back as he went on to claim the victory.

Behind Lloyd, who had lined up alongside Shedden on the front row of the grid, tried his best to match the pace of the Honda driver but he couldn’t get the better of him and had to settle for P2 in race one of the day.

Rory Butcher in the Toyota GAZOO Racing UK Corolla ended race one third after getting the better of the second Power Maxed Vauxhall of Jason Plato in the opening stages, although he was unable to match the pace of the top two ahead.

Plato had struggled off the start line and found himself losing out to both Butcher and BTC Racing’s Senna Proctor, with the Honda driver ending the race in fourth.

In the second half of the race Plato then found himself falling down to sixth after Team BMW’s Colin Turkington managed to get past him, although he was able to keep championship leader Ash Sutton behind.

Sutton, who despite finishing seventh has further extended his championship lead to 39 points, fought with Plato for the position but didn’t attempt a move on the Vauxhall driver and opted to bag more points in his pursuit of a third title.

Eighth in race one was the second BTC Racing Honda of Josh Cook, while Chris Smiley in the Ginsters EXCELR8 with TradePriceCars.com Hyundai and Ollie Jackson completed the top 10 in race one of the weekend.

Championship contender Tom Ingram could only manage 11th and as a result moves down to third in the Drivers Standings behind Sutton and Turkington, while Sam Osborne finished 12th in race one at the Derbyshire circuit.

The point scoring positions were completed by Aiden Moffat – who had started the race in 21st – Dan Rowbottom in the second Team Dynamics Honda and Stephen Jelley in another Team BMW 330i M Sport.

Jake Hill in the MB Motorsport accelerated by Blue Square Ford Focus finished race one out of the points in 17th following a collision early in the race with Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan.

Morgan had been fighting with Hill’s teammate Jackson on lap three before Hill had attempted a move up the inside of the BMW driver coming out of the Old Hairpin, however Morgan moved across and the pair collided with Morgan being spun at high speed into the tyre wall as a result.

Race two of the day is set to take place at 14:35 BST.
