Santiago Urrutia will join the grid for the TCR South America series at the event in Rivera next weekend, as he races a Lynk & Co 03 entered by PMO Motorsport.
Uruguayan Urrutia is a regular in the FIA World Touring Car Cup, where he won the most recent race at the Hungaroring for Cyan Racing.
He will join the grid for the third TCR South America event of the season in his home country, with his participation announced at a press conference on Wednesday.
Urrutia’s team-mate will be Team Principal Pablo Otero. It is not clear of Urrutia will take part in further TCR South America events at this stage.
Urrutia’s participation comes in a week of positive news for touring car racing in the country, with it having been confirmed that a second event will now be staged in Uruguay.
The first event will be at Rivera’s Autódromo Internacional Eduardo P. Cabrera, on 11 – 12 September, which had been planned all along.
However, owing to travel restrictions imposed by the Argentine government, a second event has now been added in Uruguay, at the El Pinar circuit (Autódromo Víctor Borrat Fabini) which had staged races of the South American Super Touring Championship 22 years ago.
The event in El Pinar will take place on 2 – 3 October.
